Tomorrow marks another trip around the sun—it’s my birthday again! As tends to happen each year at this time, I find myself in a reflective mood. Birthdays have a funny way of stirring up thoughts about growth, change, and looking ahead to the future.

This past year seemed to just fly by in the blink of an eye. So much happened, both big and small, that looking back, it’s hard to believe it’s really been 365 days since the last time I blew out candles on a cake. Work brought new opportunities and challenges to take on. Relationships evolved in unexpected ways; while some endured, others unfortunately did not. Some wrinkles showed up and some did not. Overall, it was a mix of ups and downs and everything in between—you know, pretty typical life stuff.
But as another year dawns, I can’t help but wonder what surprises this next trip around holds. Which areas of my life might take a turn, however big or small? The uncertainty of not knowing is both exciting and a little unnerving, if I’m being honest. Not that I expect some grand seismic shift or huge “new chapter” just because the number on my birth certificate goes up a digit. Real, meaningful growth and change tend to happen gradually through consistent efforts over time.
Still, birthdays serve as natural mile markers, prompting reflection on where I’ve been and where I’m headed. This year, instead of resolutions, I’m focusing on small steps forward, like finishing long-term creative projects, strengthening important bonds, or challenging myself with new experiences when opportunities arise. Maybe nothing huge will come from it, but who knows—adding up those incremental gains each day could result in bigger changes than I notice along the way.
So as I approach blowing out the candles tomorrow, I’ll be thinking about how grateful I feel for this next trip around the sun to see what unfolds. And I raise a birthday toast to continual progress, wherever this new year’s journey may lead!
“Birthdays are not just about adding another year to our age; they are milestones that prompt us to pause, reflect, and embrace the wisdom gained along the journey. They remind us to celebrate our growth, cherished memories, and set intentions for the chapters yet to be written.”
Original Quote by Reg Taruvinga
I challenge you all in the new season, the one in which we are presented each time we celebrate the day we were brought into the world, to celebrate the wins, big or small, the relationships, good and bad, and the gift of life in general. Each time we open our eyes, it is a new day and a fresh start.

Signing out older, wrinkled and wiser!
Reg.
